John Komnenich

Dialogue / Kids / Storytelling / Real People

John Komnenich began his career in Chicago as an award winning film editor. The trenches of the dark editing room quickly taught John what worked and didn’t work from the footage delivered to him and to the golden rule of always having a lot of shooting options in the can, a philosophy that has served John well in his directorial career.

The background as an editor has had a significant influence on his work as a commercial director, a craft he has practiced for more than two decades, in the way he shapes stories, builds transitions and connects with viewers. Komnenich has directed commercials of all genres and product categories, applying the same passionate approach and craftsmanship to each project. He is best known for his skill in casting and directing talent, both professionals and real people. Memorable, natural performances are his trademark.

Komnenich has won numerous awards for directing, including an Emmy, Clios and One Show awards. His many clients include Disney, Kellogg’s, Chevrolet, Budweiser, McDonald’s, Kraft, Max Factor, Sears, and AllState.

In the third decade of his directing career, Komnenich continues to evolve. In recent years he has broadened the scope of his work to include viral advertising, webisodes and branded content in additional to traditional broadcast spots. He has also returned to his roots in editing, cutting many of his web-based projects. For the future, he is exploring opportunities in long-form entertainment and is currently developing projects for television.

Komnenich is married with 2 children, loves to ski, sail, play golf, and is always up to try a new recipe in the kitchen with his lovely wife.
